“We live in the digital era, and the usage of media has shifted grossly from owning to licensing. The majority of the time now, you no longer own a game – “own” it on Steam? It’s simply a license. Xbox? License. Physical disk for something like Xbox or PS4? Still a license, just a physical license. The only media right now (in current era gaming at least) that I would argue isn’t truly license based is Nintendo distribution through cartridges.”
