Andrew: Back from the dead

Been gone for what feels like forever, I got sent away to Vegas for my 9-5 job for which time I was subjugated to meetings. After the meeting fest, I was whisked off to my younger brothers wedding, it was nice. I got back last night and proceeded to get an entire 4 hours of sleep. Some things just don’t change. I have been super crappy in following up with slack as I have traveled, tonight i catch up on comments and re align my center.

Dre: Werkwerkwerkwerk

So I’ve been in a creative slump for the last couple of weeks. There has been too much going on in life, I think. I was having some meditation time in the mountains when I realized it could be that I’m not exercising enough. They say a strong body makes a strong mind and I haven’t been doing much of anything but working behind a computer.

This week started out slowly, but I started to get the ball rolling and things turned out better. I worked on the sleepers, but didn’t have much luck with them because of composition problems. I did get some practice at pixel arting, though. I started working on the coloring of Nemed. That was pretty fun.

I think a little redesign is in order, but nothing tooooooo major.

Anyhow, until next week!-RegDreToday

Dre: Journal entry for Dre!

So there have been some developments with the company. Everything has been going well. I have been finishing up almost everything with our initial release and moving on to more artsy stuff.

I’m overall pretty happy with everything I’ve done. The world has been developing in a very positive way. Pieces are fitting together and puzzles have been working themselves out. There are still some small issues to be resolved, but I feel the major things have been addressed. There is still a lot of promotional art to be done and some projects I need to prove myself with, but I’m really liking the progression. I want to be involved in more game play decisions, but that is the next step… Pixel art, level layout, animations… These are on my mind. I have created games before and I think I could be a great asset in these areas.

My main job is as a game designer, so I understand art assets, sound, cohesion, and implementation. I want to be involved in this whole process and think I can improve the product as a whole. We shall see!

Andrew: Busy Busy.

I have been traveling like a crazy person at my day job.  Working at a smaller start-up everyone has to wear multiple hats.  I started as a game artist working hourly and now have the fat title of studio manager and lead artist what that means is a I get (“GET”) to go to fun meetings and travel and meet people and talk a lot.  Now, I love to talk, anyone who knows me should know this but after a while I get super anxious to start drawing again. This project has been a bit of sanity medicine for my brain, I have been able to throw out rough drawings with just an idea on them and have a cool group of people be able to see the idea and have faith that the final art will come when it’s time.

I have been hitting a bit of a stride with the main character and have been having fun now that I have unpacked more art stuff I get to bust out ye-olde pencil and paint.  Hopefully I’ll get to do some more detailed character stuff for our main gal.  He has been super fun to get to know and imagine what the face under the mask looks like.  I also am excited to see jelly cat start to solidify.  He was one of the early pieces and I’m glad he has stuck around.

Looking forward to some more hours of draw.

Hadi: Dawnroot Pixel Title and a Wedding

Hey guys!

So another week and another journal entry.

This past week has been such a blur; earlier this week I spent some time playing around with our super duper awesome logo that Andrew made for us and started simplifying it;

logo_rectangle_bg

(Andrew’s logo)

dawnroot_pixel_title

(Shitty start of a possibly awesome pixel logo)

So as you can see I still have a pretty decent road ahead of me before we have our cinderella pixel logo, but it should definitely be fun. Hopefully by the my next journal we will be proud owners of a semi thought out pixel logo.

Other than that, I went to one of my friend’s wedding in southern colorado (near the four corners) this past weekend. Here’s a picture of me and the girl who made the terrible mistake of asking me to be her date;

SO there you are folks, that was my week,

Until next time;

Hadi: Bits and pieces

Hey guys!

So this past week has been pretty fun; I managed to put together a tileset for us to start playing around with. Super exciting!

Now, I’m focusing on what I call “social media assets”; essentially cool things we can use in our twitter, tumblr and website. Should be fun.

Anywho until next time,

Dre: Journal 26

So I got some pretty solid work done on Manandans face. The level of detail is nice and the elements I created are interesting. There are still a couple unremarkable places, mainly the ear, walls and bar. I solve a hundred problems just to realize I’ve created 10 hundred more. If everything was that easy, everyone without be doing it, though.

Anyhow, all that’s left is the interior, upstairs, and the other level details. Easy, right? Right!

Dre: Journal 25

So I got stuck in the delta blackout last week. That was lame. Got stuck in Portland for 2 extra days after 2 canceled flights.

As far as Nemid’s playground goes, the map layout is getting pretty good. The map has enough size and variety of gameplay to be interesting. Now it just needs to be made more interesting. I like the red plants and the snake grass, but it doesn’t have the wow factor I’m looking for yet. Perhaps the sense of scale on things needs to increase. Perhaps the hint that you’re on some dude’s head needs to be more obvious. I’m not sure, but it’s definitely coming along.

So the first level has been redesigned to reflect a more appropriate theme for the game. I liked the old one. I like the new one. There is quite a bit of work left to be fine to make it fit the level of detail the other maps have, but I’m ok with that. Also there is quite a bit of level design left to be done as well. I like doing that part of things because it creates lot of problems and solutions. I like solving problems.
Anyhow, until next week!

Andrew: Can you smell roses on the run?

Time keeps trucking along, I know that everyone here has heard it and said it but time really does move fast, I have to keep reminding myself to stop and take a breath and look around a little bit.  I have been working so much that I start to forget how crazy it is that I get to do anything even remotely related to art for a living.  I had fun watching the wire and drawing the muffin gang, I also have been brushing up on the ‘ol graffiti skills in case I get to use them for some more in depth art later on. For now I’ve been trying to think of fun things this gang might tag on a wall.  I think this next week will turn either really cute or really dark depending on the crowlings. I’m also gearing up to take a real swing at the main character, after dealing with the move sets of these characters it will be fun to explore what our hero can do.
